Once again, hundreds of millions of Americans were given the opportunity to vote in a free and fair election, and they have chosen former President Donald Trump to be the 47th President of the United States. President-Elect Trump will take over for President Biden on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025.

Our focus as an organization has been and will continue to be on advocating for our current and prospective students and doing everything within our power to ensure they are able to study in the USA in a welcoming and supportive environment. Shorelight is prepared to once again work with a Trump Administration to that end, and we believe there are opportunities to improve policies towards international students that appeal to Republicans and Democrats alike.

We know the United States has much work to do to better attract and serve international students. We have seen countless examples of the range of societal, economic, and educational benefits that international students bring to campuses and communities. Universities across the US are providing exceptional learning opportunities to top talent from across the globe, effectively integrating their skills into local workforces and benefitting from the tens of billions of dollars that international students contribute to the US economy.

Throughout this time of transition, we remain steadfast in our focus on international student success in the United States and the benefits it provides for all. And we will continue to be a leading voice of advocacy for all the values we hold dear.

In today’s interdependent and complex world, success requires students to know how to engage across differences to find common understanding and shared interests. International education — from study abroad programs to the inclusion of international students and scholars on U.S. campuses — prepares students with these essential skills, knowledge, and habits of mind. This is not about politics, this is about preparing the leaders of tomorrow.”

  • “We know the value of our programs, the value of engaging across cultures and borders. We know that exchanges bring resources to U.S. communities large and small; that they create and empower leaders in the U.S. and around the world; and that they break down stereotypes that lead to a more inclusive world. I know that the international exchange community will continue doing its important work every single day.”
