Rubio Makes Immigration Threat To Revoke Student, H-1B, And Other Visas
This article follows the recent statement made by Secretary of State Rubio on the 100-day mark of the President’s second term. Secretary Rubio talks about the shift in US policy towards a much stricter environment. He refers to the recent visa revocations as part of the new “catch and revoke” policy stance the US is taking towards non-immigrant visa holders in the US. This broad stroke policy leaves us with more questions than answers; however, it is more important than ever that students follow the rules of their visa.
The rhetoric around “catch and revoke” raises the alarm for attorneys, employers and universities following immigration policy. According to Brown, “If implemented without procedural safeguards or with a broad brush, it risks undermining core legal principles and causing unnecessary harm to law-abiding visa holders.”
New Hampshire Congressional Delegation Presses Trump Administration on Revoked Student Visas
It’s nice to see another congressional delegation seek answers from the Trump administration about the visa revocations, the process, and their plans to fix it. The New Hampshire delegation led by Senator Shaheen did just that. She was joined by Senator Hassan and Rep. Chris Pappas and Rep. Maggie Goodlander. We need more members to do the same!
The Congressional delegation wrote, in part: “We have heard extreme concern from international students and colleges and universities across New Hampshire who have seen students’ visas unexpectedly revoked and their SEVIS records terminated. Many report having received no notification of or justification for these actions. This is entirely unacceptable. While we appreciate that the Administration has subsequently reversed terminations for certain individuals, the chaos and uncertainty the Administration has caused for international students, including those who have already left the country or lost employment opportunities, is not reversible.”
