Founded in 1833, Mercer University is one of America’s oldest institutions of higher learning, with campuses in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia. Atlanta is home to a rapidly growing tech and innovation industry. Macon offers a rural contrast and is a soulful town with a legendary musical heritage. More than 90 percent of faculty hold doctorates or the highest attainable degrees in their respective fields. Mercer’s dedicated professors play an integral role in providing students the opportunity to research, learn, and create.
LIFE AT MERCER UNIVERSITY
Mercer University provides 150+ student clubs and organizations and is home to the Mercer Bears and the Bragg Jam Music Festival. Mercer is the only private university in Georgia with an NCAA Division I athletic program. Ranked a 2019 Best Southeastern College by The Princeton Review, Mercer’s community gives students the social, professional, and academic skills to succeed beyond their degree. Students have access to a variety of cultural experiences in and around Atlanta and Macon that connect them with fellow classmates and the community.
My cohort was very diverse, which presented a great cultural learning environment. I was able to build relationships with very intelligent individuals from the world.
CAREERS AT MERCER UNIVERSITY
Mercer focuses on professional experience as an integral part of academics, and to that end Mercer’s Innovation Center aims to create 10,000 jobs and fuel Atlanta’s rise to a top-five tech start-up center in the U.S. Students use the knowledge gained from their experiences at the Innovation Center to start their own companies that focus on innovative technology and social responsibility.
Eighty-nine percent of Mercer students are employed or continuing their education within six months of graduation. Atlanta is the #11 Best Places for Businesses and Careers (according to Forbes) and home to leading multinational corporations such as Aflac, CNN, and The Coca-Cola Company.
